GFCI'S

GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. You should be familiar with them as they are required in every kitchen, bathroom, or anywhere within 6’ of a water source. The GFCI is an electrical safety device that quickly breaks an electrical circuit when sensing any ground faults. It will shut itself off at the device (outlet) instead of waiting or depending on the circuit breaker in your panel to shut the circuit off. This is especially necessary near water where milliseconds can save you from suffering serious harm. The device itself will have a ‘test’ and ‘reset’ button. This allows you to manually test the unit to make sure it is working properly as well as reset it when necessary. Sometimes a larger draw of energy from something like a hairdryer can trip the device, if you don't have power at a GFCI, try the reset button first.
